Blue Legend presents the artist’s patchwork quilts and manifests how he imagines ancient elements in mythologies and religions in an acutely intricate and bright context. The artist’s understanding of symbolism in his paintings and patchworks manifest itself as to integrate motifs from different epochs in its history into a complex whole, as is typical of oral traditions in general.
His sense of light and colour radiates throughout his objects, and it is what strikes the eye at first, sometimes making it challenging for the uninitiated to move beyond this luminosity to see the various levels of drawing, figuration, and abstraction that inhabit his objects. The patchworks in Blue Legend have this density to his imagery that requires frequent re-engagement.
By inventing his patterns from his lexicon of themes from ancient mythologies, he brings into an unprecedented approach to the art of patchwork. His way of quilting suggests that in form and composition, they are similar, but in the material-specific implementation, they differ. Unusually, the microstructural aspects of textiles find their resonance in paintings and the same level of magic and secrecy is seen in the fabric works equally.
